Known as the ‘Voodoo Lily, this spectacular hardy aroid originates from the Himalayas. Sauromatum venosum is an unusual plant that produces a single thick leaf stem that is silvery green in colour and mottled with dark patches. The large single leaf is very striking and can grow to over 30cm across. As if this stunning foliage wasn’t enough, mature corms will produce a bizarre deep purple flower that emanates a ‘perfume’ to attract flies for pollination. Fortunately, Sauromatum venosum flowers only last 2-3 days and are quickly followed by their impressive foliage.

Sauromatum venosum produces a spring flower and then a bizarre single leaf stem holding an enormous green leaf each year. In winter it dies back to ground level and becomes dormant.
This Himalayan aroid is completely hardy in the UK. Over time Sauromatum venosum can naturalise in your garden.
Each single stem can reach heights of at least 1 meter.
