These easy tips will help you take great care of your new plants after delivery. Whether you are ordering young plug plants or something a little bigger, this knowledge will help grow happy and healthy plants
PLUG PLANTS:
Plug plants are a fantastic and affordable way to add more plants to your collection. The small size of young plug plants means that they will benefit from extra care to give them the best possible start. Here are our tips to help you care for plug plants.
Be careful when unpacking your plug plants. Young stems and leaves can be very fragile.
Pot your plug plants in to 9cm pots using a multi-purpose compost. This extra growing room will allow the small plants to develop a larger root system and become more established.
Water the newly potted plug plants to help them recover and settle in.
You will know when the plants have outgrown their 9cm pots as you will see roots emerging from the holes in the bottom of the pot. At this stage you can plant your plants where you wish for them to grow. Ensure you select a spot that gives the plants their preferred conditions.
POTTED PLANTS:
Potted plants are more established than plug plants but will still benefit from a little care to help them grow happily. Here are our tips for caring for your newly delivered potted plants.

Water the plants on arrival, keep them somewhere cool and out of direct sun to allow them recover from their time in the post.
If there are roots emerging from the bottom of the pot, your new plant is ready to be potted on or plated out.
A 1 litre pot is a good size to use after a 9cm pot, it gives more space to grow and helps to avoid water-logging the soil. Multi-purpose potting compost will be perfect.
If planting out , position the potted plant in your garden for 4-6 days to allow it to acclimatise before planting out. Your garden is likely to have a slightly different climate to our sunny and mild Dorset nursery.
